Vetiver was planted at CSIR-NPL, New Delhi and IGIB, Mathura road campus, New Delhi to find out the cabon sequestration done for a period of one year. Each unit comprising of 500 m2 was planted with vetiver and lemon grass. 16 such units were planted, 14 and half units at NPL and 1 and half at IGIB.
Each units was divided into 6 plots with plant spacing variation of 30X30 cm and 50X50 cm. Also, some area was given water at 7 day interval, some at 15 day interval and remaining two plots was watered only when required. These three plots in each unit was given added fertilizers while no fertilizer was added in three plots.
Carbon measurements were done for 16 units both vetiver and lemon grass, taking 335 samples of root and 335 samples of shoot. Measurements of carbon were done at the end of 4th, 6th,8th ,10th, 11th and 12th month from the time of plantations.
